Connecticut Governor's Summer Reading Challenge

2008 Governor's Summer Reading Challenge

Congratulations to all the St. Stephen School students who participated in the 2008 Connecticut Governor's Summer Reading Challenge. This program was geared toward promoting reading statewide during the summer months. Our students were encouraged to read books and keep track of all the books that they read in a journal. These journals were collected during the month of September and the results were forwarded to the State of Connecticut Department of Education.

A grand total of 1,566 books were read during the summer by our students. The following is a list of the top readers in each class and the total number of books read by the students in that class.

Kindergarten - Top Reader: Hector Pagan (31 books)
Total # of Books Read by Kindergarten: 189

First Grade - Top Reader: Shane Franklin (44 books)
Total # of Books Read by First Grade: 387

Second Grade - Top Reader: Rachel Aliwalas (71 books)
Total # of Books Read by Second Grade: 257

Third Grade - Top Readers:
Tristan Colafati, Michael Acampora, Kaitlyn Price (30 books)
Total # of Books Read by Third Grade: 203

Fourth Grade - Top Reader: Lauryn Aliwalas (86 books)
Total # of Books Read by Fourth Grade: 220

Fifth Grade - Top Reader: Dora Pagan (30 books)
Total # of Books Read by Fifth Grade: 87

Sixth Grade - Top Reader: Faith Nofsinger (7 books)
Total # of Books Read by Sixth Grade: 27

Seventh Grade - Top Reader: Angelyn Cannon (71 books)
Total # of Books Read by Seventh Grade: 119

Eighth Grade - Top Reader: Nicole Funaro (15 books)
Total # of Books Read by Eighth Grade: 77
